Let’s face it, nobody likes paying taxes. But as part of an on-going commitment to use technology to deliver greater efficiency and cost savings for constituents, the Town of Rye is proud to announce a new, innovative payment portal that makes paying taxes easier, faster, cheaper with more payment options than before. The new platform will be available after Labor Day Weekend.
The Town of Rye has been a leader in online tax payment technology since Tax Receiver Nicholas Mecca introduced the Town’s first online portal in 2012. The new platform upgrades speed & ease-of-use, reduces convenience fees, and enables taxpayers to choose from a broad array of payment methods, including all major credit cards, eCheck (ACH) and PayPal, which now offers digital currency payment options such as Bitcoin and Ethereum along with its various credit and cash options.
When live, taxpayers can access the Town’s tax payment portal by clicking the “Pay Taxes Here” link posted on the Website’s Homepage or they can scan the QR code that will arrive with their tax bills this month. Customers will then have a choice of creating a login and connecting their account information or paying without registering. The new platform not only offers a convenient way to pay but also enables people to view past charges and liens, print bills, view their payment history, and sign up for email reminders.
As an official “Tree City,” the Town is especially pleased to enable community members to GO GREEN by reducing paper consumption, cutting down on mail clutter and contributing to a healthier environment.
Town Supervisor Gary Zuckerman has made it a priority of his administration to search out technological solutions to facilitate the efficient delivery of government services to the people of Rye Town. “We are constantly on the lookout for ‘innovative solutions’ in the Town of Rye, such as making the tax payment process easier, faster and less expensive,” says Zuckerman.
This policy aligns perfectly with Mr. Mecca’s approach. “Many people have become accustomed to accessing their bills and making payments online. Many of our constituents have expressed they were looking for greater and more dependable functionality,” Nick Mecca observed. “We have been able to do that while also reducing convenience fees.”
Working closely with the team from the Town of Rye, this payment solution was developed by Sturgis Web Services of Fort Mill, SC in conjunction with Value Payment Systems of Brentwood, TN. “Sturgis Government Solutions provides secure payment platforms to municipalities across 17 states,” explained Solutions Engineer Will Sturgis. “We are excited that the Town of Rye has become our first customer in the State of New York.”
“Our goal is to make living in the Town of Rye a pleasant experience, even when paying taxes,” notes the Supervisor with a smile.
