LOCAL LAW NO. 3, YEAR 2024
LOCAL LAW TO CHANGE THE ELECTED OFFICE OF RECEIVER OF TAXES AND ASSESSMENTS TO AN APPOINTED OFFICE OF RECEIVER OF TAXES AND ASSESSMENTS COMMENCING December 31, 2027.
Be it enacted by the Town Board of the Town of Rye as follows:
Section 1. Pursuant to Municipal Home Rule Law § 10 (1)(ii)(a)(1), the Town of Rye hereby abolishes the elective office of Receiver of Taxes and Assessments; the abolition of said office to take effect December 31, 2027.
Section 2. The appointive office of the Receiver of Taxes and Assessments of the Town of Rye is hereby created, the creation of said office to take effect January 1, 2028.
Section 3. The Town Board shall appoint a Receiver of Taxes and Assessments who shall hold office for a term of two (2) years, commencing on January 1, 2028.
Section 4. The Local Law shall supersede inits application to the Town of Rye paragraph (a) of the subdivision 1 of section twenty (20) of the Town Law with respect to the mode of selection of the Receiver of Taxes and Assessments in the Town of Rye.
Section 5. This Local Law is subject to mandatory referendum according to the provision of Section 23 of the Municipal Home Rule Law.
Section 6. This Local Law shall take effect immediately upon filing with the Secretary of State and after approval of a majority of the electors voting there on in accordance with the requirements of Section 23 of the Municipal Home Rule Law.
