Cemeteries

The Solomon Gedney Burial Ground was established on the Gedney family farmhouse property. The buried consist primarily of members of the Gedney and the Haines families.

‍The Rogers Burial Ground was a private family cemetery run by the Rogers family. Due to that fact, almost every person buried there is a member of the Rogers family.

The Guion family were one of the first settlers to the county, owning swaths of land in the area. This cemetery was private and used almost exclusively for the burial of Guion family members.

The Halstead family donated the African-American Cemetery in 1860, “Shall forever hereafter be kept, held and used for the purpose of a cemetery or Burial place for the colored inhabitants of the said Town Of Rye, and its vicinity, free and clear of any charge therefor…”
